Teaching English to 21st Century Learners

Description:

With the Common Core Standards putting the focus on the need for college and career readiness, students need to understand the power of the written word and feel confident in using it effectively for various purposes when reading, writing, listening and speaking for effective communication. This workshop will demonstrate to teachers effective strategies for teaching English to meet the needs of all learners with the intent on fostering student independence and confidence for the 21st century.

Audience: Teachers, Instructional Coaches, Assistant Principals, Principals and Prospective School Leaders

 

Presenter: 

Amanda Morton holds an MA in Educational Leadership from NYU, MS in Elementary Education from The College of Saint Rose, a BA in Psychology from Iona College, and is New York State Certified. Her research and professional work encompasses organizational and leadership theory. Amanda has presented professional development for teachers that focuses on best shared practices in the classroom. Over the last 17 years Amanda has worked in K-12 private, charter and public schools. She has mentored and instructed teachers on classroom management,  and  effective methods of teaching English, mathematics, and social studies. Amanda has ample experience in curriculum design and development. She is currently in the process of  designing and developing the 5th grade English and Social Studies curriculum for The Mandell School.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Independent Placements reserves the right to cancel a workshop if there is insufficient enrollment. In this unlikely event, participants will be notified well in advance and given a full refund. Independent Placements, however, cannot be responsible for any financial obligation incurred by participants because of travel cancellations.

 

REFUND POLICY
When requested in writing, Independent Placements will refund registration fees as follows: 100 percent of registration fee when requested 30 days or more from the event; 90 percent of registration fee when requested within 29 - 7 days from the event; no refund will be given the day of the event or there after.
